Tenzan Kid's Summer Camp

Children get step-by-step instruction and make tremendous progress in the aikido summer camp. First day beginners and advanced students alike benefit from the daily routine of immersing themselves in training. We have found that children make greater progress in a week’s time than they would by practicing the same number of hours, spread over a couple of months! A snack is served each day. Games are interspersed with classical aikido techniques to maintain a lighthearted and focused environment. The class will warm-up with basic yoga. Time is set aside for self-directed play where children make up their own games. Everyone has lots of fun and comes away from the camp with a sense of accomplishment! Recommended for children ages 6 & up.

When signing up for a camp online, please make sure to select your child as the participant.

Each session goes Mon - Fri 9:30am - 12:00pm

Kid's Jiu Jitsu Camp with Pete
Pete Wilkins (who teaches on Wednesdays and Saturdays) is offering a week-long summer camp in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for children. Jiu-jitsu is a grappling art that is very practical for self-defense and is great for developing overall athleticism. Children will learn take downs and wrestling techniques from the ground. This camp will be a real confidence builder tempered with our usual emphasize on acting with responsibility. Additionally, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a lot of fun!

Aikido Intensive with Yahe Solomon

Yahe Salomon Sensei, 6th Dan is one of the finest aikido practitioners in the world. He has a vast background in aikido, starting out as a child prodigy under the direction of Nakazono Sensei in New Mexico. He apprenticed under T.K. Chiba for many years and was dispatched from the San Diego Aikikai to be an uchi deshshi (live-in apprentice) of the Aikido International Headquarters in Tokyo. During his stay in Japan, Yahe studied in-depth with many of the world’s greatest masters, many of whom were first generation students of Morihei Ueshiba, Founder of Aikido.

This weekend intensive offers a small group (limited to 26 students) an opportunity to work closely with Yahe. Those who attend

A message from Sensei Bruce Bookman about SFAP 2009:

The S.F. Aikido Project this year was the best ever. I felt that the synchronicity between Sensei’s Tissier, Friedman and myself benefited from the previous year and that the scheduling of the classes was such that it seemed to go quickly. I was fascinated to take the classes of Tissier and Friedman and to take part in the cross training with Vaj (kickboxing) and Clovis (BJJ). Sensei Stan Pranin of Aikido Journal gave a very thoughtful presentation of aikido history. He also practiced with us and took lots of footage that he will use for projects that he will be working on.

The level of training and the close observation of the instructors of everyone attending were truly extraordinary. Each instructor presented in-depth training and practiced with the students while the other instructors were teaching the class. Most of the students got to train with the instructors. The exposure that each practitioner got to various aspects of aikido not to mention the cross training was unmatched by any 5 day camp or seminar that I’ve been a part of.

Lot’s of inspiration, camaraderie and great training for beginners and advanced students alike. I hope that we will see you there next year! The dates are June 9th through the 13th, 2010!
